Many comic book fans write letters to comic books, hoping to see their letter published on the letters page. A letterhack is a prolific writer of such letters. A few letterhacks became famous. This is about a certain infamous letterhack.
Power Pack was created in 1984 by writer Louise Simonson and artist June Brigman. Artist Jon Bogdanove followed Brigman on the series and, at some point, I took over as Jon's regular inker.
The letterhack in question loved Power Pack. He wrote letters in response to every issue, commenting on each story. And he loved artist June Brigman. When Jon Bogdanove started drawing Power Pack, he wasn't happy about it. In his letters he complained about Jon's art, comparing it unfavorably to Brigman's, pleading with the editor to bring back June Brigman. This went on for many months.
During Jon's run on the book, June drew a fill-in issue. But Marvel screwed up the credits, and June was given credit for one of the issues drawn by Jon. The letterhack wrote a letter praising the art, saying how much better it was than Jon's. The letter was published, and all involved took great pleasure in pointing out that the issue that was being praised was drawn by Jon, not June.
From Wikipedia:
Due to an editorial mistake, the credits for #45 were also printed in #44, resulting in that issue being credited to June Brigman, when it was actually drawn by Jon Bogdanove. This mistake is acknowledged in the letters columns of Power Pack #46 and 47.
