I’ve been in comic books for a long time. A freelancer who’s lived job to job. A hired ink-slinger on superhero books who eventually figured out he wanted to write and draw comics of his own. Comics that were funny, that were different from the usual. Over the years I’ve written and drawn such stories for major publishers. And now I have new art and comic books I want to create on my own, and I'd like to devote all my energies to those personal projects, and not waste time on distracting work-for-hire.
To that end, I created my Patreon page. It's a place for folks to see my art and comics, both old and new, where each week I show how I create my drawings in detailed step-by-step posts. And now I've launched this website, which will be the center of the Surly Universe. This is where I hope to connect with people who share my love for weird and funny comics, for film noir and quirky movies, limericks, and everything else that interests me.
